Social Justice
We strive to inform SCUUF members about social justice issues—local, state, national, and world; offer a wide range of service opportunities to SCUUF members; inspire ourselves and others to individual and collaborative action with UUs and like-minded faith and service organizations, congruent with UU principles; make an effort to implement what we discuss; continue and expand on current and ongoing projects, such as the following:
More affordable housing in the St. Cloud area (including support for Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity)
Help for the homeless (Laundry Love, Shower Truck, Pathways for Youth, Homeless Helping Homeless, Neighbors to Friends, United Way)
Support work of the Promise Neighborhood
Welcome our Somali neighbors and other immigrant communities ( Unite Cloud, Dine and Dialogue with Your Muslim Neighbor, Fey y Justicia)
Address white supremacy as a system and as a culture (Create Community)
Support rights of the previously incarcerated
Support rights for the LGBTQ community and the annual St. Cloud Pride festival
Support the St. Cloud Area Regional Human Rights Commission
Collaborate with other faith communities (ISAIAH, Greater St. Cloud Faith Leaders Group)
Support ethical eating through our community garden and educational activities
Collaborate with other SCUUF committees to promote environmental and social justice
Support the UU Service Committee
Support the MN UU Social Justice Alliance (MUUSJA)
Present Sunday programs on environmental and social justice
Present “Pizza and Ethics” Sunday afternoon educational and advocacy programs/discussions
Present “Bagels and Ethics” Sunday morning educations and advocacy programs/discussions during the summer
Conduct special collections as needed
Provide opportunities for members to respond to action alerts—local, state, and world
Participate in UU conferences and social justice cluster meetings
